Programmable antibiotics to fight antimicrobial resistance

With his latest review, Jörg Vogel honors the lifetime achievements of Pascale Cossart in this special issue of Molecular Microbiology.

Programmable antibiotics in the fight against antimicrobial resistance

March 2020 saw the publication of a special issue of Molecular microbiology. It is dedicated to honor the career and legacy of professor Pascale Cossart, distinguished Professor at the Institut Pasteur (Paris, France). Over the past 30 years of her career, Pascale Cossart has been a cornerstone in the research of fundamental processes in molecular and cellular microbiology and host pathogen interactions. In this special issue, colleagues, former students, Postdocs and friends of Pascale Cossart have gathered to contribute reviews and articles in the area of her major research interests.

In his contribution “An RNA biology perspective on species-specific programmable RNA antibiotics” (all articles in this issue are open access!), Jörg Vogel proposes a new fascinating approach to fight antibiotic resistance by providing new ideas on how species-specific programmable RNA antibiotics could be developed.
